Mina Gallos - Artisan
PERSONAL PROJECTMina Gallos, born Felismina Faria da Silva, belongs to a newer generation of artisans working in the Figurado de Barcelos, a clay tradition that stretches back centuries in my small town in northern Portugal. Where earlier makers shaped roosters, saints and village scenes, Mina models fantastical creatures that feel half folk tale, half dream. I spent an afternoon in her workshop, photographing her at work among unfinished figures, paint pots and a kiln worn by years of firing, following the light as it moved through the room.
